Eastbrook is an organic farm run by Helen Browning and owned by the Church of England.  The farm spans across 1,337 acres in the Wiltshire Downs and comprises of pigs, dairy, beef, veal, sheep and arable on 525 acres.  The farm is crossed by The famous Ridgeway and a dry ice-age valley, typical in this area of stunning and relatively unexplored landscapes, sweeps from The Ridgeway to the village of Bishopstone and is a great route for a 45 minute circular walk from the carpark of our pub, The Royal Oak.  You could also use us as a base for your cycling route along the Ridgeway - we're always happy to see you afterwards for a drink or some food in the pub!

Helen first converted the farm to organic in 1986 and soon after that developed the Helen Browning’s Organic brand in order to create a market for her meat products.  Click on the video link above to hear Helen's story.   In October 2010 Helen was appointed as Director of the Soil Association and is likely to take up the position in Spring 2011.  She is also chair of the Food Ethics council and has been a member of several important commissions concerning British agriculture and food.  She was awarded an OBE in 1998 for services to organic farming.

This place teems with life. That's one of the reasons we love it. If you're of the same mind, so will you.  The home to thousands of contented free ranging animals, and loads of people; an astonishing wild bird population, and foxes (not always good), and deer (beautiful, they love the place); and badgers--the jury's out on them, as you know, and not enough hedgehogs (more on that later).
