An Eastbrook Farm veal calf having a good suckle
*
Helen Browning’s organic rose veal, up to now only available through our home delivery, is on sale in selected Tesco supermarkets from Wednesday November7. This is scrumptious stuff. With steaks and escalopes hung on the bone for 10 days minimum, this eats well, looks great (pink!) and cooks beautifully.

Helen and everyone at Eastbrook are thrilled to have this opportunity to sell these glorious meat cuts to a wider audience. In addition, it starts to make an inroad into the problem of what’s the best thing to do with male dairy claves—anybody who knows this business also knows that the male dairy calf is one of the major problem areas for organic farmers.

But when you see and taste the meat that these calves produce, you’ll be amazed they’d ever been regarded as a problem! This is seriously lovely food--Helen is offering veal sirloin steaks; boneless veal steaks off the rib and the rump; slender, tender escalopes from the top rump and topside, in addition to veal mince, at 85% minimum lean levels.

Tesco are selling the product in up to 25 stores for the eight weeks leading up to Christmas, with a view to stocking this product in the longer term if customers show that they like it. As the Tesco stores stocking the product become known to us, we will publish them on this website. If you find some, please let us know, and tell us what you think of it. We would be pleased to hear from you.

Some of this veal is also finding its way to the great Bristol restaurant and cookery school Bordeaux Quay, on the harbourside. If you would like to sample their calves liver, their osso bucco, their sweetbreads and fillets, give them a call. (www.bordeauxquay.co.uk) And of course The Royal Oak in Bishopstone, Helen Browning’s own village pub, also offers organic veal in various forms almost every day.
