Some 20 years after the closure of the Bishopstone corner shop, we have opened our farm shop. Fifty years ago the corner shop was the mainstay of many communities; as well as providing those everyday essentials it was the centre of local information and gossip. Managed by our pub manager, the shop is proving to be at the receiving end of a glut of local information so we hope to continue this tradition.
It is a showcase of local food – from big flavour organic meat, delicious bread and cakes made fresh in the village, as well as rich and creamy regional cheeses to organic eggs from birds reared on Eastbrook Farm.
An abundance of fresh, seasonal delicious produce. Less food miles, less packaging, and fresher food. The source of life’s little essentials from toothpaste to toilet paper and dog food.
It has the support of Hilary Benn, Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, who has given the thumbs up to the farm shop. It was held up as an example of a thriving rural business that is cutting food miles at the same time.

How to find us
Bishopstone is about 8 miles east of Swindon, 10 miles west of Wantage. In the village is a large duckpond. If the pond is on the right, the next lane on the left is Cues Lane. The Royal Oak is 50 yards down there on the right. The car park is beyond it and round the back.
